No paraffin, no petrochemicals

Paraffin candles release benzene and toluene when burned — chemicals that are harmful to both humans and animals. Embercomb uses only organic beeswax and coconut wax. Nothing petroleum-derived, ever.

No synthetic fragrance

Synthetic fragrance oils often contain phthalates and other compounds that are especially toxic to cats and dogs. Our scents are composed from pure essential oils — the same botanicals used in pet-safe aromatherapy.

Clean burn, clean air

Natural wax burns cleaner and produces far less soot than paraffin. Less soot means less particulate matter in the air your pets breathe. Our wood wicks also burn at a lower temperature, reducing smoke output.

A note on essential oils and catsCats have a more sensitive respiratory system than humans and dogs. We recommend burning in a well-ventilated room and never confining a cat in a small, enclosed space with any candle burning — ours included. When used as directed with good airflow, Embercomb candles are safe around cats.

A small studio, a stubborn refusal, and many sleepless nights learning to pour wax.

Embercomb began with a simple goal: amazing candles without paraffin or harsh additives. What started as small-batch tests in a home kitchen became a commitment to clean ingredients — beeswax, coconut, and botanical fragrance, hand-poured in the United States.

We pour in small batches so every candle burns slow and even. We compose three scents for three kinds of rooms. And we put every ingredient on the label.

Embercomb candles are made with a blend of organic beeswax and organic coconut wax. We chose this combination specifically because both are among the cleanest burning waxes available — no petroleum, no paraffin, no synthetic fillers. Beeswax has the longest burn time of any natural wax and produces a small amount of negative ions when burning. Coconut wax gives our candles a luxuriously smooth finish and exceptional scent throw.

Beeswax burns cleanly and slowly, and releases negative ions that help bind dust and pollutants in the air. Coconut wax softens the burn and gives us a cleaner fragrance throw. Together they outperform pure soy — with no paraffin, ever.

Most scented candles are paraffin, a petroleum byproduct that releases benzene and toluene — both classified as carcinogens — as it burns. We use no paraffin, no phthalates, no parabens, no synthetic dyes, no lead. What you breathe from an Embercomb candle is wax, wick, and botanical fragrance.

Most candles on the market are paraffin based, which is a petroleum byproduct, and use synthetic fragrance oils with phthalates. Embercomb was built from the ground up around one question — what would a candle look like if we refused to compromise on what goes into the air in your home? The answer is organic beeswax, organic coconut wax, phthalate-free fragrance, wood wicks, and a burn testing process that takes weeks before any formula reaches a customer.

Our 9oz candles provide approximately 40–45 hours of burn time when cared for properly. Trimming your wick before every burn and keeping sessions to 2–4 hours maximum will get you the most out of your candle.

Wax has memory. If you extinguish your candle before the melt pool reaches the edges of the vessel on the first burn, it will continue to tunnel straight down for every subsequent burn — leaving wax on the sides that will never be consumed. Always allow 2–3 hours for the first burn so the melt pool reaches edge to edge. It sets the pattern for the candle's entire life.

Before every single burn, no exceptions. Trim to 1/8 inch above the wax surface. A wick trimmer is the easiest tool for this — scissors work too. Removing the trimmed debris from the wax before lighting keeps things clean. This single habit has the biggest impact on how your candle performs and how long it lasts.

Minimal to none when used correctly. Our wood wicks and clean wax blend are specifically chosen to minimize soot. The most common cause of soot in any candle is an untrimmed wick — trim yours to 1/8 inch before every burn and you should see a clean, steady flame throughout.

Absolutely — we encourage it. Our vessels are designed to be beautiful objects beyond their life as candles. To clean, pour boiling water into the vessel and let the remaining wax float to the surface and solidify, then remove it. Wash with warm soapy water. The vessel works beautifully as a small planter, a pen holder, a bathroom organizer, or simply as a decorative object.

Yes. Unused candles can be returned within 30 days for a full refund. Used candles can be returned for store credit — scent is personal, and we'd rather you found one you love.
